Block City

Two weeks ago we built a city made out of: blocks,counters and ice block sticks.
There was a town gate,a airport,houses and cafes.We also had a swimming pool and a mall.
The small counters were people the medium counters were cars and the big counters were trucks.
The people who made it were Samuel,Eilidh,Zane,Tegan,Emma and Chavawn.

Natureland

Today our class went to Natureland Zoo. We went to see the Tuatara. First we went to see the Kea. Next we saw 4 more endangered birds 3 of them were kingfisher,tui and the New Zealand pigeon. Then we went into 2 groups.1 group went behind the scene of the animal hospital and the other group went to see the Tuatara. Then we changed over.At the hospital we saw Pheonix the surviver of the Mapua fire in the aquarium.We saw a blue penguin and we touched it.

       

Joey!!!

Joey is a guneapig of course because here's a picture. There is also a picture of Zane.S in Room7  holding him. Joey is a year old he is a mohawk guneapig. Joey likes to eat grass and anything except for potatoes and tamatoes. I have to feed them every morning and every afternoon. Zane S also has another guneapig called mingice. Joey is so cute that I'm going to explode!!!!! He is also awesome!!!!

 

Tuatara Competition

One day we entered a Tuatara competition to see when the first tuatara woke up from hibernation.  Our class came 2nd place, Devon, Zane ,Jacob and Jesse came 3rd place.  We won a coffee a coffee plunger 2 plastic Tuataras and 1child pass to Nature Land.  We raffled the prizes to raise money for a class trip to Nature Land.

On Friday it was top team.The top team was a huge success. We played 3 different games. We played them on field. We played in our house colours which is Ra red,Tatahi yellow,Moana blue and Whenua green. There were 2 giant egg and spoon races. There were 2 tower builder compition. There were 2 hula hoop game you had to throw the hula hoop onto different wooden poles to get points. It was AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!.

Superkid Saved the Day

Our new school pool

Tahunanui School are getting a new school pool because the old one was too small and cracking. Also tall people couldn't swim properly in the old pool. The new pool will be able to fit about two classes at once so we could get more time in the pool. Yay we can hardly wait for summer and our new pool to be finished

Matches

On Tuesday 13 we went to the Suter art gallery. Went there to  look at portraits of rugby players. It was funny because some of the rugby players were smiling and they lost and some of them wern't smiling and they won. We played a game in groups. We made rosettes they were easy to make. We took photos and gave our rosettes to a loser we admired. We wrote about the good things about sports e.g.keep fit. Some of them were drinking beer and one of them were eating chips. He took the photos as soon as they had finished the game. We gave our rosettes to John Afoa because even though he lost he still had a good atitude and smile.It was really really awsome.

Genius Cafe

On the 8 of September a whole lot of people from different schools went to Broadgreen Intermediate for Genius Cafe. We got t-shirts they were  yellow they had blue writing at the back  that said Ask me I'm a genius.

Cooperative Writing

Today Samuel went to the Genius Cafe. He came back and showed his friends Storybird.com. They wrote a story together called 'Cat Adventures'. We are really impressed and will be using it in class now!!!!

Mural visit

On Friday the 2 of Semtember we went to visit the mural. The Nelson Mail took photos of the mural. The designs were all ours. Mr Harwood painted our designs onto the mural. The mural was all grey before Mr Harwood painted it. Chavawn and Ruby got interviewed by the Nelson Mail. The mural looks really awesome. Thank you Mr Harwood.

Genius Cafe Training

Today was Genius Cafe training.  Genius Cafe was at Broadgreen Intermedite. At the Genius Cafe we got to wear bright yellow t-shirts that say "ask me... I'm a Genius".  At training we practiced with other students. On the 8 and 9 of Sptember it will be the real Genius cafe. It was awesome!!!

Amazing Fossils

In the holidays my dad, my brother, my cousin Flyn, my Uncle Brian and I went fossil hunting.  We went to the Nuggety Creek.  The first fossil we found was fossilised wood.  We found lots of fossilised leaves face up.  I found a fossil off its rock. My dad found an entire fossilised leaf.  Then we went to Lake Rotorua.  After that we went fossil hunting on the hills on the back of Richmond.  We found the marine fossils.  It was hard work climbing up a really steep part. My cousin Flyn and I had trouble getting a big fossil.  We were digging and levering out the big fossil for ages. When we get big fossils out we smashed them to see if there were any more fossils inside.  At the end we saw lots of bamboo and walked back along Hill Street. 

Big Blast!

 On Thursday for science we made volcanoes.  First we did boys vrs girls the boys was green & the girls was red the  boys won.  Next we did group ones some people  made multi colour but some of them turned brown they all tied.   

Magic Balloons

We have been experimenting with chemical reactions again. We put vinegar and baking soda together and watched as it inflated the balloon over the container. When the vinegar and baking soda mixed they created a gas-CO2, which is carbon dioxide. The gas couldn't escape so that's what filled the balloon, just as if we were blowing it up.

It's a gas exploding !!!!

On Thursday the 30th of June we did a science experiment.It was about chemical reaction.
First we put baking soda in a sandwich bag.Then we put vinegar in a plastic cup.We had to place the cup in the bag with the baking soda in.Next we tipped the vinegar into the baking soda .Then we watched it explode.The vinegar dissappeared and it fizzed and foamed up.

Fun run

We had to look after little kids during the fun run.Our secret call is Ra Ra we,ll go far RAA!!!

My favourite part was when Ra won.Teachers took three photos of Ra , doing Ra for sun, pyramid for team work and star jump for fun.We had to stay together and support each other.It was fun we had an amazing time. Ra Rules!!!

The artist came to Room 7

On Tuesday the 14 of June Mr Harwood came to get our ideas for the pump station by the playing fields in Tahuna.First he showed us some of his artwork then we drew some ideas. He is going to paint some of our ideas on the mural. He is the greatest artwork person we know.

Cross Country

Yesterday we all took part in the Senior School Cross Country at the beach. Every one in the class took part and ran their very best. I was so proud of their positive attitude.

All in Room 7 were absolute stars on the day and some children got amazing results in their events. Here are two of our running stars, Ruby and Maddison. My photo isn't the best sorry girls! When I work out how to get the sound of my voice of the video I'll download them as well.

Well done Room 7.....awesome effort by you all.

Ruru

This week we have been learning about nz native animals.

We made owls the names are Ruru.

The awesome teacher

MissUssher is here with us for five weeks. She teaches us to dance and it is fun.We have lots of fun with her. Zane and Jesse busted out some good moves.We were in a circle we went and done some dance moves then they copied us.Miss Ussher is awesome we will be sad when she leaves.

Hockey 2011

On Tuesday room 7 went to hockey with a hockey player. First we got a hockey stick and a ball. Then we bounceed the ball on our stick. Then we dribbled  back and forth. After that we had a relay.  

Land Ahoy museum trip

On Thursday 7th of April we went to the museum.We dressed up as people in the 1840s Maddison was a rich person and Eilidh,Olivia,Ruby,Kaylin,Hannah and Chavawn were maids.
Then all the adults were  dressed up too. Miss Schwass was dressed as a rich lady so we renamed her as lady Andrea.

Devon and his Trophy

On Thursday the 24 of March I won a trophy and Two certificates from Nelson athletics for sportsmanship.  The people who awarded the trophy to me said that it was for smiling and never giving up.

Ezekiel bought his fire helmets to school. Here is Ezekiel and his trusty fire crew. Look at these smiles!!!!

Ruby shared her family tree with us....we were amazed at how long it was. 

Technology 2011

 

On Monday,Tuesday and Wednesday Rooms7 and 8 made boxes out of wood.  We are putting them thogether with screws and nails.  We need to put the lids on.We will put the lids  on the boxes  next week.  The tools we used were hammers and screwdrivers.  If we want we can buy them and the rest goes to the Gala. 

Year 4 camp

Last week was year 4 camp. We had activity teams. We went to the Aquatic centre to learn water safety. Then we left to go to Paretai and set up our tents. After that we had freetime and we had afternoon tea. Then we went down to the river. Down at the river we went down the rapids in a tyre. There was this huge spider which scared Miss Schwass out of her skin. After that we played a ballon game where you had to pop other peoples ballon only using your feet.  Then we played a game that the team with the most wood won. Then we went for a bush walk with Mr Wyman. Then we got a hot chocolate before going to sleep.  In the morning it was raining some peoples tents got water in them and they got a bit wet to. So the parents lit the fire and we played some games like Paretai idol where you had to sing songs. In the other game you started of with one word then you had to say  word ralated to it. Then we had break fast and packed up our stuff. Later the sun came out and we went for another swim and built a cairn for each team.We built a pool out of rocks Collin came up with the idea. Then we went back to school.

Cycling and Tryathlon Fun

 Here we are on our cycling day at school.
We practised a lot of skills and took part in some obstacle course challenges.



On the second day we all took part in a tryathlon where we ran, cycled and swam.




Yay-Jaiden came first

This is Jaiden coming first in overarm at Swimming sports. It was awesome at Swimming sports.

OE DAY Aniseed Valley

We went to Aniseed Valley for OE Day. At the start it was freezing in the river we played island tag we had to swim around if we were close to a hoop we dived in to it. We could only stay in the hoop for three seconds. These are our little buddies.They were a bit scared so we had to encourage them. It was a hot, exciting day.  

Swimming
